The Drivers Benefits app is designed to assist black car drivers in New York by providing a range of valuable benefits. Through this app, over 40,000 eligible drivers gain access to free eye exams, glasses benefits, and the option to consult with a doctor at no cost whenever needed. Moreover, eligible drivers are connected with workers' compensation coverage in case of job-related accidents, thanks to the continuous support from The Black Car Fund - an entity that has been collecting a surcharge on all black car trips since 1999.

Additionally, the Drivers Benefits app facilitates access to various services offered by the Independent Drivers Guild. These include affordable legal assistance for traffic violations and Taxi & Limousine Commission infractions, driver safety and wellness programs, as well as discounts on prescription medications.

It's important to note that not all black car drivers are automatically eligible for the free vision and telemedicine benefits provided by The Black Car Fund's 2.44% surcharge on each paid trip. Eligibility for these benefits requires drivers to maintain an average of 85 hours per month of trips with passengers in the car over a three-month period. Qualification for the Drivers Vision and Drivers Telemedicine benefits is assessed every three months, with successful applicants being entitled to benefits for the subsequent three-month period.
